Graceful Lives

The landscape from my home is clear,

as cottonwool clouds dab gently at a cooling breeze.

A sway of poppies transfuse the golden morrow's bread

while yonder hill stands proud

but soft and smooth ... green over all.

A buzzy lake with waterfowl,

and leaping fry and stealthy tench.

This clean and pleasant land,

This dream, this England!

DISGRACEFUL EVILS

The landscape on the screen is blurred,

by acrid clouds from burning fields and orphaned homes.

Stilled, human scarecrows guard a crop of wanton waste

as unseen guns chant loud their prayer of hate

and prey upon a sacrificial mess.

A crater with some water foul,

a shattered church, a burning mosque

and Holy Smoke defiles with deathly stench,

that cleaned-of-peasant land,

that nightmare that's intolerance.
